To create a website on Wix, sign up for free at wix.com, choose whether you want the AI to build the site by chat or to start from a template, change the text and photos in the editor, and click Publish. Step by step: how to create a website on Wix
1. Gather your information before you open Wix
You'll save time if you have your business name, business type, address, hours, WhatsApp number, main services, and 5 to 10 real photos ready. Your logo too, if you have one.
2. Create your account
Go to wix.com and sign up with your email, Google account, or Facebook account. It doesn't ask for a card on the free plan.
3. Choose how to start: with AI or with a template
Wix gives you two paths:
- With the AI website builder. According to Wix, it lets you create a personalized, fully functional website through a chat interface. You answer a few questions about your business and the AI builds the site.
- With a template. Wix has more than 900 free templates, according to its guide to free website builders. You pick one for your type of business and fill it in.
If it's your first website, start with the AI and change what you don't like. It's faster than filling in an empty template. When the AI asks about your business, be specific:
"Dog grooming salon in Zapopan, Jalisco. Bathing, haircuts, and deworming for dogs and cats. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00. We want customers to send us a WhatsApp message to book. Friendly tone, in Mexican Spanish."
4. Check everything the AI wrote
Any tool's AI fills gaps with sample data. Before you publish, check:
- That there are no made-up testimonials or reviews.
- That the address, hours, and phone number are yours.
- That the prices match what you charge.
- That the photos are of your business, not stock.
5. Add your WhatsApp button
Add a button that opens a chat with your number, at the top and at the bottom of the page. Check in the editor's mobile view that it shows on the first screen. Almost all your customers will visit from a phone: according to INEGI's ENDUTIH 2025, 97.3% of internet users in Mexico go online with a smartphone.
6. Publish
Click Publish at the top right of the editor. On the free plan, your site lives at an address like yourname.wixsite.com/yoursite.
7. Connect your domain (Premium plan)
For your site to live at yourbusiness.com.mx, get a Premium plan. Yearly plans include the domain free for the first year, according to Wix's plans guide. If you already bought a domain somewhere else, you can connect it too.
8. Let Google know
Add the link to your Google Business Profile, your social media, and your WhatsApp Business profile. Wix walks you through submitting your site to Google from its dashboard.
Your Google listing matters as much as the website. According to Google's help center, "Customers are 70% more likely to visit and 50% more likely to consider purchasing from businesses with a complete Business Profile."
What Wix's free plan includes (and what it doesn't)
| Includes | Doesn't include |
|---|---|
| Up to 999 free sites | Your own domain |
| Unlimited pages per site | Removing Wix ads |
| 900+ templates and the AI builder | Accepting online payments |
| SSL certificate (the browser padlock) | Connecting Google Analytics |
| 500 MB of storage and 1 GB of bandwidth a month | More storage or bandwidth |

The free plan is good for testing and for showing someone what your website could look like. For a business that wants to be found and taken seriously, the Wix-branded subdomain and the ads work against you.

Wix pros and cons
Pros:
- Free plan with no time limit and AI included.
- Visual editor in Spanish, with lots of freedom to move things around.
- Many apps to add bookings, a store, or forms.
- Spanish-language support on Premium plans.
Cons:
- The editor's freedom is also its trap: it's easy for the mobile version to get out of line.
- If you cancel Premium, according to Wix, your site's address goes back to a free Wix URL and Wix ads appear on your site.
- You make every change yourself. If you don't have time, the site keeps the old hours.
When another tool beats Wix
- If you want to spend as little as possible with your own domain: Webador or Hostinger are cheaper the first year.
- If you don't want to edit anything yourself: hire someone to build and maintain your site for a monthly fee. How much a website costs in Mexico has the price ranges.

If you build Wix sites for your clients
Many freelancers and social media managers build their clients' websites on Wix and then find that maintaining them eats their afternoons: every change to hours, promotions, or photos is another editor session. The Biz Layer is a platform for freelancers, social media managers, and small agencies that sell websites to local businesses and charge them a monthly fee. You build each client's site from a short form and request changes by chat; a change only goes live if the site still works.
